Product details
Duraco compost bin 250L manufactured in Mauritius from 100% virgin UV-stabilised polyethylene. In Mauritius, 80% of municipal domestic waste — papers, yard waste and food waste — is classified as organic and can be recycled into valuable bio-fertiliser through composting. The Duraco compost bin creates the ideal conditions for aerobic micro-organisms to rapidly decompose organic waste into compost in the presence of oxygen, humidity and organic matter.
Key Features:
– Manufactured from 100% virgin material
– One-piece moulded drum construction
– Opaque design with side ventilation holes for airflow
– UV stabilised — suitable for outdoor use
– No taste or odour imparted from polyethylene
– High impact resistance
– Two-piece system: drum and wheeled base
– Wheeled base makes turning and mixing effortless compared to conventional compost bins
– Easy transfer of finished compost to containers
What can be composted:
Suitable: sawdust, wood chips, matte paper/newspaper (small pieces), carton/wrapping paper (small pieces), tissue paper, flowers, grass, leaves, weeds, fruit and vegetable peelings, tea leaves and teabags, ground coffee, fine algae.
Not suitable: shiny paper, glass, plastic, treated wood, poisonous plants, meat, fish, bones, fats, milk products, human or animal waste.
User Guidelines:
For best results, make mixed layers of green matter and dry matter. Garden waste: 1 part dry to 4 parts green. Kitchen waste: 1 part dry to 1 part green. If moisture leakage is noticed at the vent holes, add dry matter to the mixture. Composting can begin with the bin half full — this is the minimum required to generate enough heat to destroy harmful elements. When full, leave space for movement and aeration during the first days until heat production begins. Always keep the bin closed during composting.
The internal temperature rises to 55°C during the first 2 days and remains constant for 15 days. The final 5 days are the cooling period of the cycle. Rotate the compost bin 5 times per day to circulate oxygen essential for aerobic bacteria growth — without aeration, decomposition is delayed and there is a risk of decay and odour.
Compost is ready when it is black in colour and smells like soil. Leave a small amount in the bin after emptying to accelerate the next composting cycle.
